I've gotten some positive feedback, and also tomorrow is the Stomp, so I went a bit nuts...
It's a rainy Free Comic Book Day here in Toronto so at first I sang a bunch of sad songs: "Melancholy Melody" by Esthero (I fucked up the words at one point, oops, now you get to hear me giggle and feel retarded), two songs I've heard Jeff Buckley cover: "Calling You" and "The Other Woman", and then because it was getting too heavy, I did my all-time favourite Beatles song, "Martha My Dear". Can someone tell me if I fucked up the key change thingie or whatever it is (I do not know any music theory) because I haven't actually listened to the White Album in many many months, since I have it on cassette only, hah.
Will probably add more as they occur to me. Because really, why stop now?
I also recorded myself singing a very repetitve bit of "Who Knows" by my friend's old band
Flattstreet, but I will never be able to sing better than Sarah Ruba, who's now a fucking SUPERMODEL on top of it all, uggggh. I stole all her vocal runs too. But that's why I call it hax trax. Because I'm just a hack. The goal is really to get you to click on that link and listen to the real shit.
But I was just banging around my kitchen getting some dinner and I recorded myself, not sure if I should post it because it's noisy and repetitive but I do love singing that song. Oh fuck it, up it goes. This is really just an experiment in streaming shower singing anyway.
Edit: I also redid "If Tha Mood". Dancing around helps the sound a lot. This I have learned.
Edit 2: Added "Everybody Here Wants You" by Jeff Buckley (I know I know sacreliege but I love that song). I didn't get it right because I don't really know the words, I kind of just sing phonetic sounds most of the time, but for you my loves, I looked up the words on the Internets. But I didn't really know where they go. And also you get you hear me type an IM very loudly takka takka takka in the middle.
There are a lot of empty spaces in the songs I do - the facts of doing songs with instruments a cappella, unless of course you actually
know what you're doing and do a proper arrangement.
That combined with the fact that I seem to be able to produce an awful lot of shitty raw material,
Leads me to hope (or at least consider this) to be a bunch of possible clips for people to use to make
real music. Please take my bits and do stuff with them. Sample them, fuck around with them, make them into zombie noises, whatever. I can only hope there are some ideas in what I've done, since I really like these songs and I think they're good.
My lame noise effects might be useful too, you never know.
In summary: I want to be a musician
so badly but my voice and a laptop are my only tools. I really have no idea how to use Garage Band. I just turn off the metronome, add tracks, export them to iTunes etc. I tried layering tracks to accompany myself with vocal percussion or something, but it was a mess, not just because it sounds stupid to accompany yourself, but because I had no idea what I was doing.
So real musicians, please have an open mind for making use of this stuff because I seem to be spewing it at an alarming rate and I don't want it to just end up as a musical spitwad.
