Curious that... DeLillo and Roth seem to travel as a matched set. Like the Martin and Lewis of the literary intelligencia subset. (try spelling that while drunk off your ass. I WIN!)

My ex read them in rapid succession. I wonder, if like chocolate and port, they go together well, even if they never intended to..

Your book list is intimidating... Might I suggest 'Snow Crash' by Neal Stephenson? The first half is cyber punk masturbatory bullshit, but the second is a really enlightening treatise on the way that language forms in the brain. I TOTALLY forgive the first half, for the genius of the second.

Or perhaps some Philip Roth? Just pick any. He's a joy to read. Portnoy's complaint being maybe the best.
