Friday Dose of Despair

Walked into WH Smiths in Holborn this morning in a vain attempt to buy the new Nick Cave album. They really can't be bothered with CDs any more in there, so that was a pointless exercise. But, by the book display, there's a large cardboard shipper bearing the title 'Tragic Life Stories'. It's full of child abuse autobiographies, and has a picture of a damaged-looking woman staring out to sea at the top. I find something about this utterly appalling, but I can't quite figure why... not that som… Continue

Read a book, maybe write a letter...

...Mother, things are getting better.

Sunday is going very slow, so slow that I'm resorting to typing shit on here and quoting Soft Cell lyrics. Except I'm not all alone in bedsit land at all, I'm supposedly a responsible adult with a family and a mortgage to support. And I certainly haven't been out in clubland having fun, plus the sun's hiding from me and not the other way round.

I've been holed up in my study all weekend with copious amounts of red wine and a head full of i… Continue

I saw the light, I just couldn't catch it

Waterloo bridge, London, 4.15 today. The light was wonderful. No, I don't have a picture. That's the bloody point. I made a calculation this morning that carrying a camera would be pointless, the D200 and 18-200 VR lens weigh a couple of kilos, as does my laptop, I'm on a real drive to walk between Waterloo and my office in Holborn at the moment, as I want to slay the twin birds of losing weight and saving money simultaneously, so I don't want to be lugging a heavy bag, and I decided that the co… Continue

"What Does Jesus Eat?"

“What does Jesus eat?” was the question that my nearly-three year old posed to me as I walked through the door this evening. “I don't know what you mean,” I replied – I couldn't understand where she might have got the concept of Jesus from, let alone be speculating on his diet. “What does JESUS eat?” she repeated, with a slight scowl on her face.

“Look, I really don't know,” I said, trying to avoid making some stupid flippant re…

Fevered...

Strange times are still here, but have temporarily subsided to a tolerable level of wierdness. The bloody doctor will get an earful when I get hold of him, his casual assertion, 'don't worry, the withdrawal symptoms won't be so bad as long as you're taking something' actually meant in practice 'hellish withdrawal coupled with a whole new set of side effects that'll turn you into a wild-eyed, raving freak, shaking crazily, thrashing at night and pouring with sweat while verbally eviscerating anyo… Continue

Hey. Stephanie recommended I add you as a friend, but since I'm a bit on the dim side I couldn't work out how to message you. So here it is, all public and stuff, but easily removed, happily.

Hey mate. Thanks for the comment on my picture. I've never really thought about it like that before (maybe because I know the people in the photo) but i think it certainly works like you said. I like the Rorshach test idea thingy lol.
Thanks was again.

Haha... Liz Hurley, saviour of Basingstoke. Like a modern day Joan of Arc. Mental.
... sounds like a new town. Ghastly creatures.

Hey, why do you wanna declare war on Basingstoke?! I've never been. Should I visit there before you raze it to the ground?
