hax trax 3: "When I Fall In Love"

I'm in a cheesy non-audition summer jazz choir, and we're doing this song. It's definitely the easiest song in our set list, but I happen to really like the harmonies a lot. It sounds like old Disney to me, Sleeping Beauty-era Disney (and anyone who knows me well, knows that Sleeping Beauty is my favourite Disney film and I paid exorbitant amounts for box seats when the National Ballet did Sleeping Beauty so I could hear the Tchaikovsky music played live). There's a solo in this s… Continue

Hax Trax 2

I've gotten some positive feedback, and also tomorrow is the Stomp, so I went a bit nuts... It's a rainy Free Comic Book Day here in Toronto so at first I sang a bunch of sad songs: "Melancholy Melody" by Esthero (I fucked up the words at one point, oops, now you get to hear me giggle and feel retarded), two songs I've heard Jeff Buckley cover: "Calling You" and "The Other Woman", and then because it was getting too heavy, I did my all-time favourite Beatles song, "Martha My Dear". Can someone… Continue

hax trax

I like singing a lot I have minimal training — never got past the "this is how you breathe" part I like good music. My mom's laptop has Garage Band Sometimes I sing in the kitchen while I'm microwaving some dinner Okay really I sing all the time. I hit record this time and here you have it, the first of hopefully many hax trax, when I hax0r good music and sing it myself, by myself, in my house. You get to hear not only me, and my intermittent snapping, but also my microwave beeping and Ad… Continue

Forgive my confusion about this whole friend thing

I'm a Facebook girl. This means that my "friends" online are actually my friends in real life. So it's a tough adjustment for me, to have lots of random friend requests from people who think they can be my friend without even introducing themselves. No one likes to be a notch on someone's belt in their quest to be the most popular dude on Club of Mars (snerk).

The guys I'm currently friends with, I don't know them in real life. I accepted their request because they talked to me first. S… Continue

no...not my friend, my contact.

elana i appreciate that you've got a different definition than i do. and you should let that definition guide you here. i am not in the 'most popular person on Ning' generation. i was (fortunately) born too early for that to be part of my mindset. poke around on my site here or on flickr or on my own blog. if you are interested in what you see, let me know.

a good question.

on facebook i'd need to know you.

on flickr i'd need to either know you, like your pictures, or at least live in or visit the same areas.

here? as people add more information i suspect it'll change, but without pictures, personal contacts, or writing? i don't need as much.

but you know how this is. ymmv.

facebook as a social networking tool revolved around a physical network. i taught at wash. u., i'm teaching at hopkins, i went to michigan, etc. every person i've "friended" on facebook is someone i know personally.

here? this space is much more like flickr to me...our common bond is not a physical space but an interest. so for me i treat THIS space like i do flickr. and because there isn't a "contact" option, I use "friend" AS a "contact" option.

Ah. To me the "friend" request on Ning is unlike the "friend" request on facebook...but rather more like the "contact" request on flickr. Middle ground here would be preferable....
