I picked up House of Leaves on my lunchbreak many moons ago and spent the rest of my shift (no lie) sitting in the corner of the building, looking out over the Portland night, reading and freaking myself out. Truly one of the only things I've read that's gotten into my head.

Assuming the Haunting mentioned is the novel by James Herbert, I'd have to agree with the recommendation. One of the scariest books haunting books I've ever read. A Marvelous read.

Thanks for the recommendation, Steph. I did read Haunted, but it didn't do it for me. I was much more hot and bothered by Survivor and Choke. And to be honest, JOHNNY REPEAT is soooo influenced by Palahniuk.

But if you want scary, read House of Leaves. I had to stop reading it at night. No joke.
